On August 12, 2026, a total solar eclipse will cross Europe from west to east, from Iceland to Spain. It is the astronomical event of the decade for the European continent. Here is everything you need to know to watch it safely.
The path of totality
The centrality line starts in Iceland (Reykjavik), passes through the Faroe Islands, runs along northern Spain (Bilbao, Zaragoza, Valencia, Barcelona) and the Balearic Islands, before crossing Algeria. Areas of totality experience up to 2 minutes of complete darkness.

Absolute safety
Looking at the sun without proper protection causes irreversible retinal burns within seconds. The only permitted glasses are ISO 12312-2 certified. Ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are insufficient. The only exception: the few seconds of complete totality (sun fully hidden) in totality zones.
